Yaka young men's initiation mask of carved wood with raffia collar, Congo (Democratic Republic of Congo), mid 20th century. A hand-held mask used by boys coming out of the initiation camp and returning into the village. A flat mask held by the handle at the base, with remains of the raffia costume attached. Mask is 13 x 7 1/2 x 3 inches without raffia. With attached wire to hang on wall.
