About the Item

Eye-catching ceiling lamp designed and manufactured by Winkelman & Van der Bijl, manufactured in the Netherlands, circa 1925. This stunning piece is made of high quality openworked and chased copper with rope supports and a fabric shade. It has a unique style, iconic for the Amsterdamse School movement. This unique piece of Dutch design would make an impressive addition to any interior. In good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Hendrik Jan Winkelman (1872 – 1947) was a Dutch metal worker, glass painter en furniture designer. In 1910 he started Winkelman & Van der Bijl, a workshop for ironwork. During this time he crafted fences and ironwork for stairs and lamps for the Nautical museum in Amsterdam, designed by architect J.M. van der Mey. In 1929 the workshop grew to a full-grown company with 29 employees and work in Amsterdam and Den Haag. Winkelman worked a lot with sculptor Hildo Krop and architects Piet Kramer and Adriaan Moen while realizing projects for the "Amsterdamse School". Winkelman worked on monuments and public areas in Amsterdam.
