About the Item

This is by far one of the most beautiful Tynell ceiling lamps we have come across in our 30 year career. We believe this lamp is from the 1940s because of the style and the combination of materials used. Wood and sheet metal were much easier to find than other raw materials before and during the war years because of the restrictions imposed on the sales of certain metals and other raw materials. This led to lamp designs combining many types of materials, as is evident in this lamp that combines metal, brass, wood and glass. Regardless of the materials used, Paavo Tynells genious as a designer shines as usual from the simplicity and beauty of his designs and the fact that his works fetch top prices internationally. Although the Snowflake in it's different versions is considered to be the most original and best known of Tynell's lighting designs, the public is starting to realize how beautiful and under estimated are many of his other commissioned lamps also. Fortunately this trend is being finally ammended as his other most important light fixtures are starting to gain their deserved attention and fair pricing internationally. This lamp was originally in a summer cottage in Finland :) The wooden part was repainted in white for its surface was not in a compatible condition anymore as the brass parts were polished. The white colour was chosen in harmony with the white on the shell like shade and it proved flawless with the contrast against the brass parts. The glass shades are hand blown and are in white opal glass. Note:- Shipping and handling might take up to 1 month due to export permits on cultural items.
