About the Item

This finely crafted early 19th-century Louis XVI-style ormolu chandelier exemplifies the elegance and neoclassical influences of the period. Gilt in gold, the chandelier is in amazing condition, showcasing the luxurious finish characteristic of this style. The design features graceful arms adorned with winged cherubs lifting flowering vines that terminate in candlelight. Cherubs were a favored motif of this era, symbolizing love and desire. Each arm is accented with leaves and flowers, evoking garden-like imagery, while the bobeches resemble classical Greek urns, enhancing the overall aesthetic. At the center, a raised branch topped with a pinecone symbolizes fertility and enlightenment, perfectly complementing the romantic motifs of the cherubs. The body of the chandelier showcases intricately engraved acanthus leaves, common in both Ancient Greece and French design, representing immortality and resurrection. Three elegant beaded chains connect the arms to the beautifully cast crown, which features a half-dome adorned with daisies and acanthus leaves. The daisies, symbolizing innocence and joy, mirror the cherubic themes, while a realistically cast drape with faux rope tassels adds further artistry to the piece. This chandelier is a stunning representation of early 19th-century design, where every detail has been expertly crafted, creating an enchanting narrative of love and desire.
