Early Edition Copper Poul Henningsen Artichoke Lamp, Louis Poulsen

About the Item

Early production series iconic Artichoke lamp by Poul Henningsen from a stunningly aged copper. This pendant is from a early production period showing due to the colour of the underside of the copper leaves. Originally designed in 1958 for a restaurant in Copenhagen called the 'Langelinie Pavillion' where it still hangs today. The fixture provides 100% glare-free light. It consists of 72 copper leaves that surround the light in twelve circular rows with six blades on each row. They illuminate the fixture as well as emitting diffused light. This ingenious design allows you to never view the light source and therefor only enjoy the exceptionally beautiful, even diffused light that this fixture design and other PH lamps provide. The earlier edition lamps do not carry the 3 steel suspension wires as the lamp is made like today. The older series pendants hang on one cord only, originally reinforced with a steel wire within, because these cords with steel cable interior are no longer made and available, a new steel cable is fitted next to the cord on which the heavy fixture hangs. This is a safe solution that is much nicer and cleaner because the 3 steel cables obstruct the view and demand attention. Also does the lamp look exactly how it was intended. This is a collectors piece that comes with beautiful age related wear, some small corrosion to the bottom of the lower leaves which only adds up to its appearance and shows the true age and glory of this rare pendant. The pendant comes with new wiring, single cable and a new original canopy from Louis Poulsen. For purchases within the EU we include a dimmable LED lamp complimentary as well. Ready for use in the EU as well as for US and Canada use with correct bulb.
