18th Century Varennes Chandelier with 6 Lights in Bronze and Crystal

About the Item

This chandelier is typical of the chain chandeliers of the 18th century, as for example the arabesque chandelier of the Palace of Versailles dating from 1780, which also presents similar arms of light, or the one of the same year with sixteen branches, preserved in the Louvre museum. Inspired by the Louis XVI style, it combines a finely chiseled bronze with a greater simplicity in the ornaments. Composed of a central shaft decorated with glass beads, this chandelier has six arms of light distributed in a circle. The latter, in the form of tree scrolls, have a flat cup and a flowering spiral in their center. This last one connects the level of the light arms to the ornamental floor thanks to chains. The ornamental floor which overhangs the whole, is itself decorated with tassels, at the birth of the chains of ornaments. The ensemble creates an effect of lightness and softness thanks to the thinness and curves of the light arms. We have one chandelier in stock however we can produce them made to measure and in other finishes such as 18k gold, 24k gold, silver, black nickel (or any bespoke finish). Our Company may also customize sizes or make any modifications on original design.

This chandelier is an original variation of the chain models that could be found in the 18th century, such as the Louis XVI period torchiere chandelier in the Château de Versailles. On a central openwork bowl surmounted by a metal dagger, twelve arms of light are spread out. Each of these supports a cup in the centre of which a flower bud wick is in full bloom. Four arms extending from the central dagger connect the central cup to a small tray decorated with rosettes and pendants. These same pendants are repeated under the bowl and on the light arms. This composition creates two superimposed parts, the first in bronze, very light because of the spacing of the arms, and the second in rock crystal, more dense, like a forest. We have this one in stock however we can reproduce it in an other finish or in an other size.
