About the Item

An elegant and finely cast Large French late 19th century Louis XVI style ormolu grape chandelier, beautifully blending grapes and grapevines with the classical symmetry of Louis XVI design. This impressive very large sixteen-light chandelier is crafted entirely in gilt bronze and retains its original mercury-gilded finish, radiating a warm and lustrous golden tone throughout. At the center, a vertical stem wrapped in intricately cast grapevines and sheaves of wheat anchors the composition. Two tiers of gracefully scrolling arms extend outward, each richly adorned with naturalistic botanical motifs. The arms exhibit the asymmetrical elegance of Rococo design while maintaining the neoclassical order and refinement of the Louis XVI style. Each arm terminates in a circular bobeche with a faux candle socket, topped with flame-shaped glass bulbs that evoke the soft glow of candlelight. The central shaft is further embellished with delicately cast vine leaves and wheat stalks, each individually applied directly to the frame with remarkable precision. The overall silhouette, with its rich ornamentation and balanced form, conveys a sense of restrained opulence and sculptural harmony.
