Large Mid-Century Modern Chandelier with White Glass, Black and Copper Shades
About the Item
Very large and impressive Mid-Century Modern chandelier, European, circa 1960s. A striking modernist fixture from a former church, which would suit the high ceilings of a loft or barn conversion, restaurant or other tall space. Possibly a bespoke piece - very nicely constructed, and in good original condition - with no maker's mark but very much of the style of Scandinavian or Dutch designers and makers such as Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup, or Louis Kalff for Philips.
The fixture is made up of seven chrome rods, radiating from a central metal ring; the rods support shades of layered white satin glass and copper, with the outer layer of each shade finished in black. The wiring forms part of the complete silhouette, meeting at the ceiling in a metal cone, with original heavy hanging mechanism in place.
The light is in good vintage condition and presents well. There are a few nicks to the glass - mostly not visible from below - and a few minor scratches to the finish. The wiring is original, and we advise it is tested/renewed as necessary in the country of install to make sure it meets your local needs and regulations; original lamp-holders take standard large bayonet-fitting bulbs.
