Paolo Crepax after Tagliapietra, Two Suspension, Opaline Filigrana Incalmo 1980s

About the Item

From the first set of four, two were acquired. Beautiful set, the incalmo shows a ritorto filigrana of three colors, bluino, green and red. I am assigning these to Paolo Crepax at the times of La Filigrana, one of the great companies operating in Murano during the 1980s and 1990s. It was Lino Tagliapietra who set the way to reproduce in glass the Semi pendant of Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. While the Danish lamp is spun brass over a mold, here the shape is an incredile craftman work. Is made from the free spinning of the glass after the final scalda heating. In order to get the thin neck he had to switch from the morso to the rear with a punty rod passage.This technique can be seen on later Tagliapietra pieces, like the dinosaurus vases. The incalmo on the edge, beside the great aesthetics and the pickup of light, helps to control the opening avoiding the typical waving effect that comes if the glass is not perfectly even in temperature. The latter is the way to get fazzolettos and shells like first Chihuly production. The great vibrant color selection of the filigree in the incalmo is more of the end of the 1980s and 1990s. Each shade is slightly different in size. Incalmo is perfectly executed which confirms Paolo Crepax, who is one of the best if not the best masters for spun open plates with for incalmo. See one of the pictures showing the incalmo colors in close up. Incalmo is made by 18/24 canes ritorto (mena is the correct term) spiralised. What makes this listing so interesting is the identical pair, allowing to go over a counter or a dining table. Coming from a shop in the Milan area.
