Scandinavian 1940s globe pendant lamp attributed to Tore Ahlsén, Sweden, 1950s

About the Item

A large globe shaped pendant lamp attributed to the Swedish architect Tore Ahlsén and probably produced for the Swedish consumer’s cooperative KF in the early 1950s. It features a round shade with a geometrical shaped metal skeleton covered in a beautiful semitransparent textile. The fixture is hanging from a partially leather twined brass rod with a matching brass canopy up by the ceiling. Two standard e27 lamp holders in the center of the fixture. The Swedish architect Tore Ahlsén, born 1906, is best known for several innovative housing estates and public buildings designed together with his brother Erik. Their modified functionalism influenced the landscape in Stockholm, not least in the Årsta district where the strict facades were decorated with geometric but colorful patterns. Parallel with these large housing projects, the brothers also designed furniture and other interior design objects. Best known is probably the Pia garden furniture and the Pia pendant lamp.
