Scandinavian mid-century pendant lamp, Carl Fagerlund, Orrefors, Sweden, 1960s
About the Item
A Scandinavian modernist pendant lamp attributed to Carl Fagerlund for the Swedish glassworks Orrefors. Crafted from brass, it features four glass shades adorned with an organic relief pattern. The fixture is suspended from two brass chains attached to the original ceiling canopy.
Orrefors Glassworks was founded in 1897 and quickly became one of Sweden’s most renowned glassware manufacturers. A major turning point came with the hiring of artist Simon Gate in 1916, soon followed by Edward Hald. Their innovative designs were featured at the Gothenburg Industrial Exhibition and, most notably, at the 1925 Paris World’s Fair. The company was dissolved in 2012 due to profitability issues. Carl Fagerlund joined Orrefors in 1946 as a designer of lighting fixtures.
