$18,950 Sale Price45% Off - Pair of Tiffany Studios New York "Globe" Glass and Bronze ChandeliersBy Louis Comfort Tiffany, Tiffany StudiosLocated in New York, NYThis enchanting pair of Tiffany Studios New York "hanging globe" chandeliers are composed of two reticulated glass shades. Tiffany’s idea of blowing glass through openwork bronze had evolved in the 1890s with a series of Byzantine revival fuel lamps. The technique was popularized by 19th-century Muranese Glassmakers Salvati as a derivation of the Ancient Roman cage cup (vasa diatreta). In the 4th century, Roman glassmakers encased blown glass vessels in a delicate cage of glass. In Tiffany’s version, glass is blown through an ogival pattern cage. Originating in 11th-century Byzantine textiles, the ogival pattern became established in Italy, Ottoman Turkey, North Africa, and as far west as the Balkans. - Tiffany Studios New York "Turteback Tile" ChandelierBy Louis Comfort Tiffany, Tiffany StudiosLocated in New York, NYRippling undulations in gold iridescence and soft, organic lines dominate this ethereal but weighty composition, an exceptional example of a Tiffany Studios New York "Turtleback Tile" chandelier. Three tiers of vertically oriented rectangular Turtleback tiles with rounded corners graduate in size, with substantially sized tiles decorating the bottom-most tier and the apex of the domed shade featuring tightly clustered tiles in miniature. Sumptuous and romantically uneven borders frame each tile, accentuating their unique silhouettes and adding a dark, matte element to contrast the bright, shimmering gold that dominates the shade.
