Contemporary Glass Lamp: Semazen Crystal Hanging Pendant Light Pink
Located in Ulcombe, Kent
This new lighting collection is cast in optic crystal and inspired by A.M. radio waves and whirling motions of Sufi dancers. The dynamic between the inner and outer form encourages viewers to look both through and at the surface of the glass with its waves and striations of colour. The pieces are made using an ancient glass casting technique called core casting. The colour way of each suspended light is unique due to the nature of the movement of glass within the cast mould. Lit by a micro LED marker contained within the bronze mount the light sparkles through hundreds of tiny bubbles creating a glowing ambience that is reflected from within by the delicate textures and waves of the core. When viewed together, each group of pendants creates a story of alchemy, texture, and energy that can harmonize with their setting whether it be austere or luxurious. Each piece is cast in the studio of Max Jacquard Glass on the Greensand Way in Kent, England. Max's experience in cast glass spans the length of 30 years and he is known for his innovative and tasteful approach to cast glass that is based in historical methods and contemporary practice. Core cast in Optical Lead Crystal with Bronze mount, hand polished. Dimensions: Semazen Pendant: 400mm height x 110mm diameter. Weight 2.7kg Colours are customizable. Shown here from left to right: Topaz/Brown Brown/Amber black Amethyst/Aquamarine Rose/Topaz with Copper dusting interior Brown/Topaz with Gold...

Bernard Rooke Brutalist Abstract Table Light in Organic Style 1960’s-1970
By Bernard Rooke
Located in London, GB
An organic and Brutalist style Butterly table lamp. No chips or cracks. Has been professionally rewired and PAT tested. Easily rewired for all regions. Bernard Rooke (born 1938) is a British artist and studio potter. Rooke has exhibited his "Brutalist" ceramics and painting both in the UK and abroad with work in many collections both public and private including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Cleveland Museum of Art, Nuffield Foundation, Röhsska Museum in Sweden and the Trondheim Kunstmuseum in Norway. Bernard Rooke attended Ipswich School of Art studying painting and lithography before going on to study at Goldsmiths College of Art. It was while studying here that he decided to take up pottery. Although unfamiliar with this craft and tradition, he found that working with clay provided new opportunities for freedom of interpretation and creativity. In 1960 Rooke set up his first pottery in Forest Hill in South London along with Alan Wallwork. It was a very small room with enough space for a small electric kiln. He was initially using mainly hand building, coiling, blocking and slabbing techniques. While researching ideas, he was supporting himself by part-time lecturing at London University, Goldsmiths College and St Mary's College. In addition, Rooke's membership of 'The Craftsman Potters' Association' enabled him to show his work in a shop in Carnaby Street in London. In 1967, both the need for a larger working space and becoming disillusioned with living in London spurred Rooke into moving out of the city and to an old mill building in Swilland in Suffolk. Rooke wanted to widen the range of work so as to become more commercial. With the birth of his son, Aaron, and much needed work to be done on the mill, it was important to be able to make a living. In 1968, the Grand Metropolitan Hotel commissioned Rooke to make 120 standard lamps, 120 table lamps as well as a 24 foot long ceramic mural and another 9 foot high, which incorporated interior lighting. The money from the commission helped to pay for much needed restoration work on the mill. By the 1970s, a gallery space was opened in the windmill and run by Susan Rooke, Bernard's wife, selling work to locals and tourists as well as to American airmen based nearby. The vision for Mill Gallery was beginning to develop and alongside this a reputation was building bringing in a good source of income. Sons Aaron and Felix were becoming more involved with the running of the pottery, giving Bernard more time to develop new ideas and designs and more time to continue with his painting. In 2004, the Rooke family decided not to sell to the public through the gallery anymore and close the pottery to concentrate more on painting and printmaking. In 2017 Bernard's lighting was featured in the Exhibition: “Glass, Light, Paint & Clay” at the Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery. The exhibition featured four artists: Bernard Rooke, John Maltby...

Egyptian Motif Pair of Regency Candleholders by George Penton English circa 1808
By George Penton
Located in Incline Village, NV
Rare pair of Regency bronze candleholders from the London, England workshop of George Penton on New Street Fetter Lane. He was well known and recognized by both British and American connoisseurs of fine art during the late 18th and early 19th century. These Regency candleholders are marked and embossed "Published by G. Penton Jan.Y 1 1808". The Egyptian motif, the sphinx like figures, and recumbent lion at the base, all indicate that Penton was most certainly influenced by Thomas Hope and his 1807 publication "Household Furniture and Interior Decoration". The ornate and detailed appointments; from the multiple medallions adorning the candle cups, rope and tassel design to the drip holders, to the fine quality representation of the sphinx, lion, and mask on the base, with floral leaf pattern to the perimeter, all are emblematic of fine quality Regency period household decorations. These are a unique and beautiful pair of Regency candleholders from an important maker and an impressive collection (see provenance below). Perfect for the discerning collector of 18th and 19th century antiques. The condition is outstanding and all original with no restoration. Dimensions: 10 3/4" high x 3" wide x 4 1/2" deep George Penton's work can also be found at St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina where a brass chandelier with provisions for holding 45 candles still hangs. It is the oldest of these types of church chandeliers in America, and is referenced in an article in a May 18th, 1907 issue of The Atheneum. It was installed in 1804; information regarding this can also be found in "Written Historic and Descriptive Data, South Carolina, St. Michael's Church" prepared June 27th, 1941. Provenance: The Millicent A. Rogers Collection (See underside of candle holder image): Millicent Rogers (1902-1953). Noted Socialite, Fashion Icon, and Art Collector. Standard Oil Heiress and granddaughter to Henry Rogers...
