About the Item

This exceptionally rare ceramic floor lamp was designed by British ceramic artist Carl Cunningham Cole. The piece was produced in 1983 in his own workshop located in Algutsboda, Sweden. It was acquired by the previous owner directly from the artist. This unique lamp is signed with the artist's name and the year of manufacture, 1983, on the underside of the base. The design is handcrafted in stoneware, showcasing a glazed finish in varying shades of brown and black. The overall tapered base, featuring stacked disc shapes, creates a distinct and striking appearance. The tall, tapered lampshade is renewed in a smooth, ivory color fabric, its neutral tone complementing the colors and shapes of the base. The lamp is in very good original condition. Renewed shade, two very minimal chips on the bottom of the base, not noticeable when the lamp is normally placed on the floor. Currently with European 220V wiring and plug. Specified Dimensions: Total height including shade: 128 cm/ 50.39 inches Height of the base only (excluding shade): 76 cm / 29.92 inches Diameter of the shade: 30 cm/11.81 inches at the bottom, 17.5 cm/ 6.89 inches at the top Diameter of the base: 21 cm / 8.27 inches Carl Cunningham Cole (1942-2015) is a renowned British ceramic artist celebrated for his innovative designs and masterful craftsmanship. After apprenticeship and dialogues with Bernard Leach, Hans Coper, Lucy Rie, Liu Shengdao, Dong O Anh and Hamada Shoji, Carl developed techniques which would make him notable among the masters of the ceramic arts. In the 1980s, Cole established a workshop in Algutsboda, Sweden, where he produced unique, handcrafted pieces, including lighting and decorative ceramics. His works, characterized by their refined forms and striking glazes, remain highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
