Japanese or Chinoiserie Paper Vintage Hand Crafted Bamboo Floor Lamp

About the Item

This lamp was with several other unique one-offs from a collector offered at auction. It creates a nice silhouette and the round wood base makes it very solid. It only uses a little Christmas tree-sized light, surprising. But it emits a nice light source that is somewhat functional and pleasant. The switch is on the cord. The base and the triangular bamboo stand at the base are of good construction and design. The appraiser says there are definitely Asian design influences at play here, almost certainly predating the paper lanterns Noguchi innovated. She says she researched and can't find anything comparable. So, she is taking a bit of a "shot in the dark" with the estimate. A vintage Japonesque or Chinoiserie style paper and bamboo floor lamp made in the Japanese or Chinese style, possibly in Asia but also possibly in the US or Europe, 20th Century The cylindrical white paper shade supported between three bamboo supports with triangular double box stretchers, on a domed circular elmwood base.
