The standing floor lamp is part of the re-issued Smilow Lighting Collection., originally designed by Mel Smilow in 1956 and officially reintroduced by his daughter Judy Smilow in 2017. This collection’s sculptural and nature-inspired pieces bring a softness and brightness to a room, while complementing our entire furniture collection. Originally designed in 1956, the Standing Floor Lamp has graced the living rooms of many over the years. With a signature contrasting stripe of maple wood, and our signature handcrafted shade made with birch dowels, this lamp is sleek and classically midcentury. Made in America since 1949, Smilow Furniture and Lighting defines: Enduring Modern Classics. - Made in solid walnut with brass fixtures and a vellum shade with birch dowels. - UL and CE listed - Made in USA by Smilow Design LLC - Measures: 59” tall x 16”dia shade 12” wide at base. Judy Smilow (1958-2018), designer and founder of Smilow Design LLC, grew up “modern” in a Frank Lloyd Wright cooperative Community surrounded by her father’s artwork and furniture. Through the glass walls of her family home, she looked upon wooded surroundings and integrated architecture that would define her own design aesthetic: Natural, simple, and modern. Her father, Mel Smilow (1922-2002) designed and retailed modern furnishings through his six independently owned stores from 1949 through the late 1970s. A champion of affordable, finely crafted, modern design, his work has been recognized and coveted by collectors and well appreciated by his loyal customers for over 50 years. Now, with the reintroduction of this authentic midcentury brand, handcrafted in America since 1949, the designs and manufacture prove to have truly stood the test of time. Still handcrafted in America, our products fit what Mel used to say about his furniture: Enduring Modern Classic. Judy Smilow (1958–2018), designer and founder of Smilow Design LLC, grew up “modern” in a Frank Lloyd Wright cooperative community surrounded by her father’s artwork and furniture. Her father, Mel Smilow (1922–2002) designed and retailed modern furnishings through his six independently owned stores from 1949 through the late 1970s.
