About the Item

Rare, colorful and very stylish light fixture from early 1900's Amsterdam. This rare and highly stylish lantern was made in early twentieth century Amsterdam. The vibrant colors of the 'fire painted' opaline glass combined with the marvelous patina of the hexagonal frame & brass gallery is an absolute joy to behold. Both on and off the special colors and patterns in this rare light radiate nothing but class and aesthetic beauty. The Dutch Arts and Crafts interiors needed this type of colorful home accessories, because most furniture was made of a dark wood. This particular hand-crafted pendant is extra stylish and special, because of the fire painted opaline glass panels. These panels were individually hand-crafted and hand-painted and the special paint then was burnt into the glass at extremely high temperatures (in the kiln). The result is both stunning and extremely long lasting, because the colors that you see today are exactly like they were when this light left the artisan's studio. And in a hundred years from now they will still be exactly the same. Finding this rare light made our day and for all the glass panels to still be intact made it extra special. The ebonized wooden balls that 'gap the bridge' between the hexagonal frame and the circular brass top too are typical style elements for the Dutch Arts and Crafts era and even the brass chain and canopy are 100% original to this pendant. This handcrafted work of lighting art is a joy to come home to and in the evenings the warm light will create an atmosphere that will truly make you feel 'king (or queen) of your castle'.
