French 19th Century Renaissance Style Three Piece Ormolu Oil Lantern
About the Item
A spectacular and high quality French 19th century Renaissance st. three piece ormolu oil lantern. The lantern is raised on a circular Rouge de Verone marble base below three handsome ormolu paw feet joined by a pierced scrolled ormolu arch design. The lantern displays rich acanthus leaf chasings at the sides. The handle has a pierced detailed foliate mount in a satin and burnished finish. The front has two openings for wicks amidst rosettes and a mottled filet. Above is an ormolu draped figure of a richly chased bearded man with a bowl in his hand. The figure can be removed to have access to the lamp. All original gilt.
