A hard to find small scale hand pounded copper vase including 44" antique double chain, from our recent Japanese acquisitions From Japan comes this attractive and beautiful antique hand wrought "harvest moon tsukumi” lantern or ikebana vase in a smaller scale size complete with an antique 44" suspension double chain. The rugged weather resistant chocolate brown patina lantern is finished in an attractive original dark hand pounded finish. This lantern is a desirable and special Japanese lantern created for indoor or rugged outdoor use and your flexible display. The 44 inch double strand antique chain is a bonus that allows suspension from tall garden structures such as pergolas or posts. This attractive and unusual hanging vase, named “tsukimi”, may be used as a lantern holding an LED, oil lamp (photo), unique candle holder, or an Ikebana flower planting arranging vessel for your favorite flowers. Dimensions: Total length from top of the antique chain to the bottom of moon vase is 51 Inches. The vase is 7 inches diameter and 1.75 inches wide and the antique double link chain by itself is 44" in length. Fine, heavy hand crafted quality, beautifully hand finished with a rich chocolate copper patina from good age. About the Full Moon Festival "Tsukimi" : The celebration of the full moon festival "tsukimi" typically takes place on the 15th day of the eighth month of the traditional Japanese calendar. These days normally fall in September and October of the modern solar calendar. The tradition dates to the Heian era, and is now so popular in Japan that some people repeat the activities for several evenings following the appearance of the full moon during the eighth lunisolar month. Tsukimi traditions include displaying decorations made from Japanese pampas grass (susuki) and eating rice dumplings called Tsukimi dango in order to celebrate the beauty of the Moon and seasonal produce are also displayed as moon offerings.
