A pleasing red bronze vase including 68" antique iron chain, from our recent Japanese acquisitions From Japan comes this big beautiful old vintage and hand cast "full moon" lantern or ikebana vase in a large scale size complete with an antique 68" iron link chain. The red bronze lantern is finished in an attractive original dark red murashido finish. This lantern is a desirable and special Japanese lantern created for your flexible display. The 68 inch antique iron chain is a bonus that allows suspension from tall garden structures. This attractive and unusual hanging vase, named Tetsu tsuri Douro, may be used as a lantern holding an LED, oil lamp (photo), unique candle holder, or an Ikebana flower planting arranging vessel for your favorite flowers. Dimensions: Total length from top of the antique chain to the bottom of moon vase s 80 Inches. Red bronze Vase is 14 inches diameter. and 3.5 inches wide and the antique iron chain by itself is 68" in length. Fine, heavy quality, beautifully hand finished with a deep rich patina from good age. About the Full Moon Festival "Tsukimi" : The celebration of the full moon festival "tsukimi" typically takes place on the 15th day of the eighth month of the traditional Japanese calendar. These days normally fall in September and October of the modern solar calendar. The tradition dates to the Heian era, and is now so popular in Japan that some people repeat the activities for several evenings following the appearance of the full moon during the eighth lunisolar month. Tsukimi traditions include displaying decorations made from Japanese pampas grass (susuki) and eating rice dumplings called Tsukimi dango in order to celebrate the beauty of the Moon and seasonal produce are also displayed as moon offerings.

An elegant pair of Japanese cast and lacquered bronze pagoda lanterns, Taisho Period, circa 1920, Japan. The lanterns a true pair, with mirrored decorations and lantern doors opening in opposite directions. The lanterns of traditional toro form, cast in bronze, and lacquered. Each lantern comprised of three parts - the "roof", the "fire box", and the pedestal. This type of pedestal lantern is called a dai-doro, as opposed to the hanging lantern type, tsuri-doro. The hexagonal roof of the lantern, reminiscent of temples or pagodas, features a wonderful, dense cloud pattern with three heart-shaped cutouts, known as inome, or boar's eye. The roof topped by a hoju, the Buddhist flaming Jewel of Wisdom. Each of the six corners feature a fantastic shachihoko, mythical beasts with the face of a tiger and body of a fish. Bells are suspended from the shachihoko. The globular body of the lantern features four pierced panels with the three leaf hollyhock mon of the Tokugawa clan surrounded by a karakusa pattern of scrolling vines.
