Art Deco Bronze Sconces Attributed to Louis Süe and André Mare

About the Item

Our rare set of four gilt bronze sconces with knotted drapery motif with crystal beads are attributed to Louis Süe (1875-1968) and André Mare (1885-1932) for their firm, Compagnie des Arts Français. Each 40.5 by 23 by 11 inches, apparently unsigned, with six sockets and modern wiring, ready for installation. Literature: Florence Camard, Süe et Mare et la Compagnie des Arts Français, Paris, 1993, p. 245. Camard's description of this model translates to "We find the motif of the knotted drapery in this six-light illuminating gilt bronze wall lamp (height 1.03 m). A variant with three lights, intended for Jane Renouardt, was truncated in its lower part. (Renouardt, 1890-1972, was a successful French model and actress.) A pair of this model was offered in Sotheby's 20th Century Design auction in New York on March 6, 2013 in lot 107 and closed at $59,375.
