About the Item

Large wall sconces designed and produced by Cristal Art, Italy 1950s. Brass structure, curved crystal diffuser. Excellent condition. Cristal Art was a Turin company active in the furniture sector and in particular of furnishing accessories. Founded by Giuseppe and Giovanni Donna in 1944, it had as artistic director the designer Giuseppe Raimondi. The company's flagship sector was the production of mirrors and glass furniture. The distinctive feature of the company was the gold mirror decoration and the patent for the execution of mirrors with a smoky finish from transparent to mirrored that allowed designers who collaborated with the company to invent exclusive products. Present at the main exhibitions of the sector since 1949 (furniture show, trade fair in Milan, Paris and Lyon) soon became one of the most established manufacturers of glass home accessories together with Fontana Arte of Milan (still existing) and the disappeared Sant'Ambrogio & De Berti of Lissone, Brusotti of Milan.
