About the Item
An impressive and monumentally scaled pair of French 19th century Napoleon III Period Louis XIV st. Ormolu sconces. This exceptional pair of sconces are centered by an Ormolu gadrooned urn sitting atop a central support. The five S-scrolled arms surround the central urn and are adorned with rope twist and foliate motifs leading to gadrooned candle cups. The arms connect to a richly chased Ormolu backplate in the shape of an escutcheon, decorated with foliate scrolls, palmettes, and topped with a finial in the shape of the royal crown of the kingdom of France.
