About the Item
A monumental pair of French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu sconces. Each magnificent sconce has a ribbon style bow backplate accented with a rosette at the top and a cornucopia of berried flowers at the bottom. From the impressive fut extend five 'S' scrolled arms with elaborate berried scrolls ornamented with acanthus leaves ending with spiral designed candle cups with beaded trim. The extremely richly chased central column has three maiden faces with draping floral garlands below and reeded borders above. Acanthus leaves adorn the base with a larger floral garland ending with tassels suspended below. All original gilt.
