Set of Four French Early 19th Century First Empire Period Four-Arm Sconces

About the Item

A handsome and complete set of four French early 19th century 1st Empire period patinated bronze and ormolu sconces, circa 1805. Each four arm sconce is centered by a striking richly chased bottom finial and most decorative circular foliate backplate. Three elegantly scrolled arms center the fourth straight central arm while each is adorned with exceptional intricately detailed acanthus leaves with Rinceau scrolls leading to the beautiful foliate ormolu candle cups in a rich satin and burnished finish. All original gilt and patina throughout.

The oval shaped centerpiece is raised by elegant tapered foliate supports below charming richly chased plaques of posing cherubs. A beautiful and intricately pierced wrap around ormolu gallery frames the original mirror plate and extends around the centerpiece with lovely foliate design amidst scrolled movements and sphinges. Above and on the back of each cherub plaque are exceptional and most unique arched bevel mirrors.
