About the Item

THE PRODUCT Presented here is the Swedish wall sconce No. 6972, manufactured by Boréns Aktiebolag in Borås, Sweden. The sconce features a bell-shaped metal shade with a delicate, perforated pattern that emits a soft, atmospheric glow. When lit, the punched holes cast a decorative light pattern on the wall — blending utility with visual elegance. The shade is mounted on a gently curved brass arm, offering vertical tilt and horizontal rotation for directional flexibility. It is fitted with an E14 bulb socket. Inside the wall mount, the lamp bears its original label: “Boréns Aktiebolag Tranås 6972,” along with the Swedish “S-mark” by SEMKO — a national certification for tested and approved electrical goods of the era. THE DESIGNER The designer of model 6972 remains unknown, as many lighting pieces from this era were left unattributed. However, Boréns collaborated with several Swedish and Danish designers during the 1950s. A few of them worked in a style that closely echoes this model. These three stand out as the most likely candidates: *Svend Age Holm-Sørensen Celebrated for his perforated shades and expressive brass arms, often creating sculptural light effects. *Johnny Mattsson Known for his restrained, functional forms with precise perforated detailing. *Thorvald Alef Favored elegant proportions, bent arms, and well-balanced light diffusion in wall-mounted fixtures. THE MANUFACTURER Boréns Aktiebolag, founded in 1924 in Tranås, Sweden, was a respected name in Swedish lighting design. Known for its high-quality luminaires, the company produced a wide range of fixtures until its closure in 1985. Their designs reflect the precision and craftsmanship associated with the golden age of Swedish lighting. THE HERITAGE Model No. 6972 is a fine example of Swedish mid-century lighting. With its combination of sculptural form and soft, atmospheric light play, this piece remains a desirable collectible among Scandinavian lighting enthusiasts. YOUR SHIPPING Included worldwide.
