Triptych of Jewel like Appliques attr. to Angelo Lelli in Suprematist Art Style
About the Item
Stunning and super rare triptych of jewel like appliques finished in plexiglass and brass attributed to Angelo Lelli for Arredoluce, circa 1956. These appliques feature a stunning suprematist/constructivist style art form showing the influence of artists such as Malevitch, El Lissitsky, Suetin, Rodchenko, Moholy Nagy etc. as well as nods to the 'De Stijl' movement and Mondrian, they are equally beautiful as art sculptures as when lit.
The red and white plexiglass diffusers are original and in lovely order with no heat damage or distortion, each diffuser is a single heat formed element. All the other components of the lamp are made from high quality solid brass i.e. there are no steel components.
The lamps are in full working order with original electrics, we can rewire the lamps for no extra charge.
The sculptural black rods are enameled solid brass and could be stripped should the buyer prefer a brass finish over the black enamel but we prefer to keep our items as original as possible. The black enamel shows signs of age and wear with small chips commensurate with their age. We can strip the enamel back to brass for the buyer should they wish but only after receiving full payment.
All the small brass fixings that secure the plexiglass diffusers are present and original. The bulb holders retain their original external brass shrouds and the bulb fittings are Edison screw E16, we would recommend a low power bulb circa 40W for these appliques, it is not worth the risk of heat damage to the plexiglass diffusers by using a higher wattage bulb.
Provenance: From the same Neopolitan estate as the authentic Angelo Lelli 'Stella' chandelier' we listed previously. All of the lighting from this estate was Arredoluce from the 1950s and were bought new by the family, therefore we are confident that the designer is Angelo Lelli, however due to lack of documentation we can only make an attribution.
A rare opportunity for design art connoisseurs.
