American 19th Century Patinated Bronze and Ormolu Lamp by E.F. Caldwell & Co.

About the Item

A remarkable and very unique American 19th century patinated bronze and ormolu lamp by E.F. Caldwell & Co. The lamp is raised by an elegant square ormolu base with a fine wrap around mottled band and lovely scrolled foliate designs at each corner. The tapered patinated bronze body displays an exceptional array of most decorative Asian like scrolled interlocking designs with beautiful curved ormolu reserves at each side. Above a remarkable Greek key like design at the neck is a superb ormolu top cap decorated in the same manner as the base. Stamped C at the base. Edward F. Caldwell & Co. of New York City, was one of the premier designers and manufacturers of light fixtures and decorative metalwork from the late 19th to mid-20th century. Founded in 1895 by Edward F. Caldwell (1851–1914), the firm left a legacy of custom designed and finely made lanterns, chandeliers, ceiling and wall fixtures, floor and table lamps that can be found today in many metropolitan area churches, public buildings, offices, clubs, and residences including, the White House (1902 renovation), St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York Public Library, and the Rockefeller center.
