About the Item

Art Nouveau Bronze Lamp After Pierre-Etienne Champagne, Statue LA JEUNESSE. Pierre-Etienne-Daniel Campagne, (France, 1851-1914) "Jeunesse" Lamp Model Represented by Classical Nymph. The model of this statue is "JEUNESSE", meaning youth or young people in English. The Sculptor represented the classical mythological nymph as the symbol of youth. Nymphs are generally regarded as personifications of nature, are typically tied to a specific place or landform, and are usually depicted as maidens. They were not necessarily immortal, but lived much longer than human beings. In this artwork, the sculptor also used the art nouveau style to present the word "youth" along with the figure. The nymph is holding the flower stalks with 4 lamps in pattern of ornamental characteristic of Art Nouveau, which is its undulating asymmetrical line, often taking the form of flower stalks. The lamp sits on a round marble base and is in great condition.
