Danish Modern Stoneware Table Lamp by Saxbo, Eva Staehr-Nielsen, Denmark, 1940s

About the Item

Rare stoneware table lamp in brownish "Hare´s fur" glazing by Saxbo Pottery, Denmark. Made by Eva Staehr-Nielsen in the 1940s. Original shade and bronze/bakelite mount. Signed "E.St.N" and stamped by Saxbo. The Saxbo Pottery was established in 1930 by Nathalie Krebs, who had previously worked at Bing & Grøndahl. She was trained as a civil engineer and chemist. Eva Staehr-Nielsen joined her in 1932 and together they made Saxbo into the most important independent small pottery in Denmark. Krebs developed the glazes and Staehr-Nielsen created the shapes. Several generations of Danish potters worked there and helped to establish the classic Saxbo style of simple stoneware shapes and oriental style glazes. The pottery closed in 1968. Lamp base incl. socket: 38 cm./15 inches. Lamp base width: 13 cm./5.1 inches. Shade diameter: 41 cm./16.1 inches. Lamp total height with shade: 53 cm./20.9 inches.

  • Eva Stæhr-nielsen Unique Big Green Table Lamp, Saxbo Denmark, 1950s
    By Eva Stæhr Nielsen, Saxbo
    Located in Forest, BE
This is a very unique table lamp with a nice shade of green glaze. Its a higher piece than usual. This is a real lamp not a vase that was transformed later. You can see the glaze around the cable hole on the detail picture. A signature under the base. Made by hand by Master ceramicist Eva Stæhr-Nielsen at famous Danish Saxbo atelier. The lamp shade (34.4 x H24.2cm) received a new white stripped cotton (by Audrey). The feet (34 x 13cm diameter) was professionally cleaned by a craftsman (her name is Sophie).
