About the Item

A impressive and high quality French 19th century Neo-Greek st. patinated Bronze, Ormolu and Rouge Griotte marble lamp, signed Henry Cahieux and F. Barbedienne Foundry. This exceptional lamp is raised on a square Rouge Griotte marble base with mottled and coved designs above four Ormolu pawed feet. Above is the elegant and elongated patinated Bronze amphora with richly chased male and female classical figures throughout the slender body. The base of the urn is accented with a charming Vitruvian scroll detail below a mottled band which wraps around the body before each of the intricately detailed scenes. Foliate vines tied with bows wrap around the top of the urn below the fluted neck. The neck is flanked by large scale handles displaying female busts wearing beaded necklaces and crowns. Above are the six scrolled Ormolu arms adorned with acanthus leaves and leading to the circular saucers and candle cups. Henry Cahieux (1825–1854) was a French sculptor and designer who served as Head Decorator for the celebrated Parisian bronze foundry of Ferdinand Barbedienne. Renowned for his refined Néo-Grec and classical revival designs, he provided master models for vases, lamps, and decorative bronzes that were cast to the highest standard.
