French Louis XV Style Table Lamp, Figure By «Mathurin Moreau», 19th Century

About the Item

A stately table lamp, adorned with a decorative vase, bronze, spelter, and patinated pewter, is positioned in the presence of a young woman seated at the edge of a fountain. The fountain, embellished with a dolphin, boasts a removable brass internal tray, which serves as a symbolic representation of the Delphin of France, the royal heir of the French monarchs. This artistic composition is a testament to the skillful craftsmanship of Mathurin Moreau (18 November 1822 – 14 February 1912), a renowned French sculptor who adhered to the academic style of sculpture. Born in Dijon, Moreau's artistic career was launched in 1848 with his initial exhibition at the Salon, and he was subsequently awarded a medal of honor from the Salon in 1897. Additionally, Moreau served as mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris and in 1912, a street was named in his honor. Moreau's father, Jean-Baptiste-Louis-Joseph Moreau, and his siblings, including sculptors Hippolyte and Auguste, were also accomplished artists. The dimensions of this exquisite piece are as follows: height without abajour 23,62 in (60 cm), width 8,66 in (22 cm), depth 5,11 in (13 cm).
