About the Item

This mid 19th century Japanese Meiji Period Kyo Satsuma Vase Lamp is a truly phenomenal piece of art. With multiple scenes that include Japanese figures in ceremonial costumes in various countryside environments, this very large lamp will add depth and intrigue to a room's aesthetic. Originally part of the Bibb estate (Bibb Lettuce) in Kentucky, this lamp, at some point, has been converted from an early glass globe format to one that supports a standard Edison bulb, harp bail and shade as seen in the images. The opulently decorated earthenware vase sits on a wooden black lacquered base with simple carvings. This lamp would be stunning on a sideboard in an entryway, a study, living room or any space that requires that rare and unique piece of this size and intricacy. The color palette includes warm hues of salmon, persimmon, gold, light blue, brown and black all layered over a crackle glaze with gold gilt finish detail. The shade is a warm brown/taupe with a golden satin lining, finished with an oval Chinoiserie brass finial. The lamp has an extra long cord as well for greater placement options. I invite you to study the images closely to appreciate the detail and design of the artwork on this lamp. Dimensions: 11" diameter x 38"h from base bottom to bail top
