Large Hadrill Horstmann Pluslite Magnifying Industrial Lamp, England, circa 1940

About the Item

A rare original Hadrill and Horstmann Pluslite magnifying lamp in the largest available size. Dating from the 1930s-1940s, this lamp is in beautifully restored condition. The armature allows 90 cm/35.4 inches reach in all directions, thanks to the clever counterbalance design. It works without springs and therefore will never lose it's tension or be unable to hold position. The magnifying glass can be extended and retracted and is protected by a panel in the shade when not in use. The magnifying glass can be fixed in position by tightening the knobs that control two hinges allowing it to unfold and extend. A beautiful and very effective piece of Industrial Design. Condition: The aluminium arms have been polished. The shade is in original condition with scuffs and very minor bumps. The original Hadrill and Horstmann logo and instructions are clear and bright on the inside leaf of the magnifier compartment with some minor losses to the top of the logo. The switch in the top of the shade has been replaced with a new switch and bulb holder in bakelite in the original style. It has been rewired with a twisted, double insulated cloth covered cord. Certified (tested and tagged) to Australian electrical standards. The magnifying glass is in excellent condition, no cracks, no scratches. The large counterbalance weight has been repainted in matte Black. Similarly the base has been repainted. All cord holders on the armature have had the rubber grommets replaced. All joints and knobs are in excellent working condition. Overall, excellent restored condition and working perfectly. Dimensions: Full extension of light 90 cm reach and 360 degree turn. Magnifier adds a further 15cm. In mid-reach position 60cm deep, 20cm wide, 53 cm high. Tightly folded position, 30cm deep, 20cm wide, 56cm high. Free delivery Melbourne Metro Area.
