Louis XVI Gilt Bronze Table Lamp with Roses and Ribbons, 19th Century

About the Item

A beautiful example of French neoclassical design, this gilt bronze (ormolu) lamp base was originally created as an oil lamp during the 19th Century. The elegant baluster-shaped body is richly adorned with finely detailed floral garlands and tied ribbon motifs, hallmarks of the refined taste that characterized the reign of Louis XVI. The craftsmanship is superb, with crisp, intricate chasing and a warm original gilded surface that enhances the flowing lines and delicate ornamentation.
