This unique desk or table lamp was designed by Hendrik Methorst around 1925. Methorst worked during the peak of the Amsterdam School period and is known for his daring, original pieces and his craftmanship. His singular expressive designs were executed by hand in his Utrecht workshop. The frame is made of hammered red copper with the hand chiseled details giving the piece a wonderful texture. The sharp, curved line of the lamp foot gives the piece a great presence. The silk fringes around the adjustable shade give the light an intimate glow. The shade is adjustable and the lamp can function as a desk lamp or decorative table lamp.
This design was also on display at a large retrospective dedicated to the Amsterdam School at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. The unique Amsterdam School style...
