About the Item
Petite table lamp, also functioning as a wall lamp, produced by the lighting department of the Swedish department store Nordiska Kompaniet in the 1930s, possibly designed by Erik Tidstrand. Made from steel and chrome metal with wooden details. Circular foot with an integrated light switch and adjustable metal shade. The lighting department of Nordiska Kompaniet is nowadays less famous than the renowned furniture department, once led by Axel-Einar Hjorth. Nevertheless, the department store once had a prominent lighting department, producing high-quality fixtures for public spaces as well as private homes. During the golden years of Swedish design, architects like Erik Tidstrand, Bertil Brisborg, and Olle Elmgren produced a long range of models, characterized by exquisite craftsmanship combined with functionality and a beautiful aesthetic. A collaboration with the Orrefors glassworks resulted in a range of marvelous chandeliers with glass shades and bowls designed by glass artists like Simon Gate and Edward Hald.
