Murano Mid-Century Dolphin Stem Twin Arm Glass Lamp Stand
About the Item
A large and impressive Italian Murano mid-century hand blown glass lamp stand or twin candle stick. The lamp stand is modelled as a twin candlestick standing on a wide rounded base with a dolphin stem with a central raised finial with two arms supporting candle shaped holders to either side. The stand combines hand blown red glass elements with clear glass containing gold aventurine. The base is formed to facilitate an electrical cable with the inner stems hollowed out to facilitate electric cables to be fed through the body of the lamp holder to each of the raised lamp holders. These would need electrical fittings to accommodate bulbs. However the piece is clearly intended to have a dual purpose and could equally well be used for candles and is a wonderful display piece and finely made. The lamp/candle stand is not marked.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
