About the Item

Pair of fine quality 19th Century Louis XVI style Sevres porcelain ormolu mounted table lamps. Traditional French porcelain. These beautiful hand-crafted, hand-painted Porcelain de Sevres table lamps are stunning. One side is painted with cherubs in the manner of Watteau, the famous 18th century artist. The reverse is painted with an abundance of life-like fruits and flowers and are further embellished with gilded decoration. Measures: 17 1/2" High x 10" Wide x 9" Deep Pink and white colors that would look wonderful in any traditional or contemporary setting. Sevres porcelain history starts in 1738 when the Marquis Orry de Fulvy, brother of the Minister of Finance, obtained from the French king Louis XV a license to manufacture porcelain in the Saxon manner. At that time the brothers Dubois, had already experimented to produce porcelain at the Chateau de Vincennes. Together with Gravant, they succeeded in producing a type of soft paste frit-porcelain around 1745. The Sevres Porcelain Factory was originally founded in 1738 at Chateau de Vincennes, France by local craftsmen from a nearby porcelain factory at Chantilly. From the beginning, Sevres created finely detailed gilded and hand painted decorative arts for the wealthy and privileged. Louis XV took over the entire Sevres porcelain operation himself around 1759, believing himself the best ambassador to promote its wares to both a French and increasingly international clientele. The Vincennes factory was also granted the monopoly for polychrome painting on porcelain. The other French factories were only permitted to paint their porcelain in one color. This monopoly stood until 1780. In 1756, the factory was moved to Sevres, where it is still in operation. Sevres Porcelain was able to shed its dependence on the French Royal family by expanding to produce highly crafted pieces for the wealthy and simple yet high quality pieces for a broader section of society.

Pair of Royal Worcester Style Hand-Crafted Porcelain Vases Blush Ivory Austrian
By Royal Worcester
Located in Miami, FL
A superb pair of vases made in the manner of Royal Worcester pieces that were made around 1890. These vases are uniquely shaped and have a blush ivory Japanese lotus decoration. This style was influenced by the wonderful Persian artefacts that found their way to Britain and that soon became an influence on British design. You can see the finely carved and reticulated shapes on the surface of the neck of the vases. The decoration on the body of the vase is done in the "blush ivory" style, which became popular in the late 19th century and early 20th century. This was based on the Art Nouveau movement in Europe and Aesthetic Movement in Britain, creating designs based on natural shapes rather than the familiar ornamental shapes from the Victorian times. The production process was complex; items received a glossy glaze on the inside, and a matt glaze on the outside. Colors were achieved by spraying an apricot-colored glaze near the rims with the newly invented "aerograph machine" - this was one of the first examples of air brushing. Eye catching Pair of Austrian Hand-Crafted Porcelain Vases will enhance any setting. Each measures: 8" High x 4 1/2" Wide x 4" Deep Outstanding Pair of Royal Austrian...
