About the Item
Gold and gargoyles combine to create an elegant lighting opportunity in this pair of lamps made in Canada. The French Rococo influence is apparent in the gilded cast design and the tower silhouette with intricate bronze gilt work. Perhaps most impressive is the tripod base that is decked out with gargoyles with up-stretched wings. on duty, six of them, at the base of the lamps.
This is a wonderful auction acquisition and there is only one pair.
Each lamp with hexagonal-section column with stylized palm-tree treatment, on shaped tripod bases. Surmounted by a single harp with flaring box shades with chamfered corners. The lamps are so stylized with tripod feet that are shaped like little irons or sabots, and that is where the gargoyles are crouching. There is a beautiful foliate design all over the body of the lamp and at the neck under the socket arranged in a circle like a crown. The finials are original.

An assembled group of three Neoclassical style ebonized torchiere lamps
from the early 20th Century make a strong lighting statement.
The grouping includes a pair with later scalloped bowl-form etched glass shades, bowl form cup, cylindrical standard on tall plinth base with gilt stencil ornaments. The largest lamp was produced by Tower Lamps, and it is a taller lamp with tulip-form white glass shade, compressed ball "reserve" over a cylindrical standard on a short plinth base with gilt stencil ornaments.
