Pair of "Fontana piccola" lamps (1853) by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte - Italy

About the Item

Designed in 1954 by the French glassmaker and decorator Max Ingrand, this precious white satin blown glass lamp was initially called "1853" and later "Fontana" in homage to the manufacturer. Max Ingrand was in fact the Artistic Director of this company for over ten years. In the world of design "1853" is still today the distinctive name of the object. Object with an iconic and timeless design, Fontana has earned the title of "bedside lamp par excellence". It is equipped with multiple switching: both the base and the lampshade contain one or more light sources. Multiple lighting allows you to meet multiple lighting needs: from the slight liminity of the rest light, to the intense light for reading up to an emotional and soft light obtained by indirect emission. Max Ingrand, whose full name was Maurice Max-Ingrand (Bressuire, December 20, 1908 - Paris, August 25, 1969), was a French glassmaker, decorator and designer. He is known for having created the stained glass windows of numerous churches in France and abroad and for having been the artistic director of the Italian lamp company FontanaArte for over a decade, for which he designed some products that have remained in the history of design. He was awarded the Legion of Honor. FontanaArte was born in Milan in 1932 from the meeting of Gio Ponti, the great father of Italian architecture of the twentieth century, with Luigi Fontana, an entrepreneur of sheet glass, and Pietro Chiesa, a master in glassmaking. Glass is the main material, the material that most of all expresses FontanaArte's creativity, marking its roots and at the same time its future. Design icons and new lamp families confirm the success of this internationally recognized company. Material: painted metal frame; lampshade and base in blown satin glass. Finishes: satin white.
