About the Item
This lamps are from the Northern Italian center for ceramics, Ancora. .A pair of vintage Italian hand-painted porcelain hexagonal table lamps are
decorated and signed by the artist, Antonio Zen, Made in Ancora, Italy, 1940-1960. Lamps are oversized and of hexagonal sections and covered ginger-jar form. The color palette is earthy, neutral with brown and orange tones. They rest on a porcelain base. Each lamp has a white ground decorated with large-scale floral decoration all around, signed Zen along the lower edge, the bottom stamped "HAND-DECORATED / ANCORA ITALY." Each lamp has a hexagonal linen shade.
Each lamp is 30 inches tall, 8 inches widest diameter, 6 inches diameter at base.
Ancora Italy is a region known for Italian ceramics. Antonio Zen was born in Nove, Italy in 1871 and was the son of Venetian ceramist Giovanni Battista Zen. The signed lamps--a pair are extremely rare, and Zen tended to make few copies of his work. Other works by Zen from the 1930s are featured in ‘Ceramiche da Collezione Antonio Zen, volume 1° figure e personaggi 1930-1940.'
The lamps are in very good vintage condition and present extremely well.
