Per Linnemand Schmidt, large chamotte clay stoneware table lamp, Denmark 1960s

About the Item

Large Palshus table lamp made in chamotte clay stoneware with checkered pattern on the low part of the body in shades of brown. The lamp is signed by incising in the bottom and has model # DL26/1 and is in very good condition with no chips, marks or repairs. Per Linnemann (1912-1999) was the son of Danish sculptor Willie Wulff. Later he took the name of his stepfather Schmidt. Per entered the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen in 1931 and worked as a sculptor, when he was between 30 and 40 years old, specializing in portraits. In 1949 he opened Palhus Stenøj (sandstone) with his wife Annelise Linnemann-Schmidt (born Sprechler). They settled in a house to work and live there. This was located in Sengeløse outside of Copenhagen. Per created and his wife ran their business. The items were sold in the Den Permanente department store in Copenhagen. Other talents were involved in pottery, including Jens H. Quistgaard, sculptor Billy Eberlein and American-Cuban Hugo de Soto. In 1972, three years after Annelise died suddenly in a car accident at the age of 51, the studio closed its doors. Palshus produced work that used chamotte techniques, glossy glazes as well as matt enamels. The colors were often in blue, brown and beige tones typical of the Scandinavian countryside.
