A Bit of History: Franklin Mint is a well-known company, especially for its limited edition collectible items. Founded in 1964, Franklin Mint gained great popularity by creating and selling high-quality replicas, commemorative coins, figurines, and other art and collectible items. Many of these items were produced in limited runs and were often associated with historical, cultural, or artistic themes. The items produced by Franklin Mint were often of high quality and held strong perceived value in the collector’s market. Nicholas L. Berbenczy (December 6, 1920 – January 3, 2011): Berbenczy was born in Budapest, Hungary, on December 6, 1920. By the age of eight, he had learned the art of painting porcelain. As a young man, he studied with some of the best hand-painting ceramic artists in the world. Before leaving Hungary, he was a master painter at Herend Porcelain. Over the years, he worked in Hungary, Brazil, Austria, and the United States, meeting renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and Marc Chagall. In 1967, Berbenczy was commissioned by the Lyndon Johnson administration, through the Shenango China Company, to design plates for the White House. He hand-painted more than 200 dessert plates used in the White House’s official porcelain service and also created a King Tut plate with a gold border. After working with Shenango China, Berbenczy freelanced for Franklin Mint in Philadelphia until his retirement in 1990. Upon returning to New Castle, he continued painting and sculpting until his passing. Don’t miss out on this rare item! We are specializing in premium antiques. Vintage Signed Ivory White Porcelain and Gilt Hand Painted Table Lamp
Located in Lomita, CA
This lamp is so special, so elegant and hard to find. The palette is attractive in ivory with leaves in various shades of green and gray that appear to be falling on this vintage botanical hand-painted porcelain vasiform table lamp. This is attributed to Europe from the mid 20th century. There is a signature painted with a brush near the base of the lamp. The lamp's base is porcelain with gilt trim that is wearing in some sections. The plug is older and dates to mid-century or earlier. It presents well with an added white shade that is not included. It measures 33 inches tall from base to finial and 5 inches by 5 inches wide. The lamp's harp is old and unattractive with deep oxidation, and it will be replaced before delivery unless the buyer asks otherwise. Provenance This lamps was purchased at a Pacific Coast Highway...
