About the Item

For sale is an exceptionally rare, signed, and dated Modernist glass table lamp by renowned Art Deco designer Anatole Riecke, produced in Paris in 1950. This lamp features a heavy, solid art-glass cube base, adorned on two sides with Riecke’s signature abstract geometric, Cubist-inspired patterns, etched into the glass and accented with natural green pigment. It is signed ‘A. Riecke’ and dated ‘4.7.1950 Paris.’ The lamp holder, mounted on a plate with a complementary Cubist geometric design, has a mottled green painted finish. A push-button switch on the bulb holder controls the lamp, which remains in good vintage condition and full working order. Anatole Riecke was a Russian-born artist who relocated to Paris in the early 20th century. During the 1930s, he played a significant role in the Art Deco movement, notably being in charge of the glass decoration for the famed and iconic "La Coupole", a popular Parisian restaurant frequented by artists like Jean Cocteau, Giacometti, Joséphine Baker, Man Ray, Georges Braque, Picasso, Jean-Paul Sartre, Sonia Delaunay, Marc Chagall, and Édith Piaf, to name but a few. Riecke specialised in creating glassware characterised by abstract geometric designs. His works often feature tall, black opaline glass forms adorned with vibrant colours and cubist-inspired patterns. Many of his pieces are signed and dated, reflecting his active period from the 1930s through to the 1950s. Riecke’s distinctive style and contributions to Art Deco design, particularly in glassware, continue to be celebrated by collectors and art enthusiasts alike and this lamp represents a very rare, if not unique, opportunity to own a piece of lighting by the designer.
