Rare Pair Maria Pergay Midcentury Table Lamps Gilt Brass Steel Metal France 1970
About the Item
Amazing rare pair of gilt brass stainless steel metal table lamps designed by Maria Pergay, France around 1970s. Each table lamp has one plastic fitting and takes one E27 standard screw bulb to illuminate. Wiring and switch are very good so all is fine working and ready to use. The beautiful table lamps come with matching later added fabric lamp shades which have a width of 30 cm / 11.81 inches and a height of 20 cm / 7.87 inches in color greyish brown and inside golden. The table lamps have a total height of 46 cm / 18.11 inches including lamp shades, 32 cm / 12.60 inches including fitting, the base measures 17 x 17 cm / 6.69 x 6.69 inches wide x deep. These beauties stay in very good original condition with minor typical wear consistent with age and use They are eye-catcher and they would perfectly fit to design interiors with furniture by Willy Rizzo, Romeo Rega and Gabriella Crespi.
A stainless steel model of these lamps was used in the villas of Prince Abdullah in Taif, Saudi Arabia (documented in Maria Pergay- Suzanne Demisch p. 93).
Born in 1930 in Moldova, Romania to Russian-Jewish parents, Pergay and her mother fled to France at the beginning of World War II. After the war, Pergay studied costumery, set design, and sculpture at the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques in Paris, before opening her own shop to sell decorative silver objects. It wasn’t until the late 1960s that she began using stainless steel. Pergay lives and works in Paris, France. Today, her works are held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
