Richard Barr for Laurel Lamp Studio Collection Large Brutalist Table Lamp, 1963

$1,200

About

A very impressive early 1960s Brutalist steel and bronze finish table lamp from Richard Barr’s Studio Collection for Laurel Lamp. Large and sculptural multiplanar body of torch cut steel plates with a dark finish described by Laurel Lamp as “weathered bronze”. Spot-welded forms emanate from a central steel rod, connecting and intersecting to create striking abstract shapes and voids when viewed from any angle. On stepped cast metal base with two-tone natural and patinated bronze finish. Original boudoir-style harp with white enamel finish. Original fittings and finial. Newer socket and wiring. Often attributed to Harry Balmer, though image 16 showing its page from the original Laurel Lamp catalog (not included) confirms that it’s a “contemporary American sculpture by Richard Barr” with model number H-821. Overall dimensions are listed below. Height to top of socket is 32 inches. Base is H 1.38 in. x W 8.63 in. x D 8.63 in.
