A Robust Modernist Desk Lamp
About the Item
A robust industrial Bordeaux red desk lamp with a fluorescent light. The lamp has a solid, heavy rectangular iron stepped base, a curved chrome rod and a hinged shade. The lamp has been repainted and rewired. The lamp was possibly designed by the Belgium lamp brand Erpé.
Erpé was founded in January 1914 by Leon Ritzen and Frans Penners, two entrepreneurs from Brussels. In the 1920s and 1930s Ritzen & Penners manufactured many industrial office and work lamps and electrical equipment. They also distributed German SABA radio receivers in the 1920s and marketed broadcast receivers in the 1930s. At some point the name Erpé was changed into Erpe.The company ended business in the 1960s.
