Scandinavian Modern Large Stoneware Table Lamp by Henri Keramik, Denmark, 1960s
About the Item
Large and unique stoneware table lamp made in the 1960s by "Henri Keramik", Denmark. The conical base is made from dark chamotte clay and decorated with waves at the bottom. The light glazing with pink elements is a signature from the workshop. Signed at the bottom. Mounted with a flax linen shade.
Handmade at Henri Nielsens own studio in Odense, Denmark in the 1960s. While Hans J. Wegner, Kaare Klint and Finn Juhl led the way for the success of Denmarks dominance at the field of modern furniture production Danish arts and crafts was also flourishing. The most well-known names are probably Silversmith George Jensen, Ceramist Axel Salto and Woodworker Kay Bojesen, but despite Denmark's modest size, there were a multitude of small workshops with arts and crafts that produced high-quality objects to everyday life. Much of it was sold directly from the workshops, but also more established shops such as "Den Permanente" and "Illums Bolighus" in Copenhagen exhibited and sold works from these workshops in the 1940-70s.

Løvemose was a pottery in the town of Kædeby on the island of Langeland in central Denmark, run by husband and wife team Marie Hansen (d. 2008) and Johannes Hansen (d. 2003). It started in 1942 and ran until the mid 1980’s. It was of a reasonable size with up to 15 staff working there at its peak.
