Large stoneware table lamp handmade by Danish artist Conny Walther at her own workshop in the 1960s. Mounted with a flax linen shade. Signed with artist initials "cw" underneath.
Height w. shade: 71 cm. / 27.9 inches.

Conny Walther (1931-2019) was a recognized Danish ceramicist who has had a significant influence on the Danish ceramics scene. She started her career at the famous Saxbo ceramics factory in 1948, where she worked for a short time, before continuing her education at the Crafts School in Copenhagen from 1949 to 1951. She subsequently worked at Kähler in Næstved before opening her own workshop in 1953 .
Walther became known for his unique style, which often featured highly fired, embossed and hand-manipulated forms, as well as glazed pieces with expressionist brushstrokes. Her characteristic ball vases and stoneware utensils were often decorated with dramatic colors and create an interesting contrast with the raw surfaces.

Conny Walther
Conny Walther (1931-2020) learned the potter's trade in the large industrial ceramic factories while studying at the School of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen until 1951. She was the first to learn the techniques of high-fired earthenware at the Saxbo factory between 1948 and 1949. The next step for Conny Walther was to go to the Kähler factory for two years of experimentation after her studies in 1951-52; immediately after this period of training, she opened her own workshop in Kirkerod and developed a unique plastic vocabulary. She then began to work with stoneware, which she freely decorated with a lively expressionist glaze.
